This is a great item made all the better with the bonus trains you get. My four year old really likes trains right now and these get a lot of use (also by his eighteen month old brother), and they are durable and easy to wipe off when little hands get them slightly soiled. We haven't had to replace the batteries yet, and we've been using them almost daily since August, so I would rate their battery life as beyond excellent.
