My 8 year old daughter loves these - you can design your own patterns from the Barbie.com website. There are tons of combinations, and you can even upload your own images. It takes a little practice to figure out how to layer the designs just right, but once you've got it down, you can have a design whipped up and ready to print fairly quickly.
I printed extensions in her soccer team's colors and handed them out before a game to all the players...the girls loved them!
We have two inkjet printers at our house - one is top feed, and the other is front-loading. The top feed wouldn't work, so we tried from the front-loading printer, and it worked just fine. Be sure to set your printer settings to the highest DPI for the ink.
