Fisher-Price Disney's Rock Star Mickey Review

While Mickey Mouse is a star to most kids already, so it is fitting that ROCK STAR MICKEY now takes the stage. Boasting a cool pair of shades and a wicked electric guitar, it only takes a press of his foot and pinch of his nose before he belts out a mousy version of the Kink's "You Really Got Me", complete with rock star "moves" (considering this doll does the splits, it may more akin to Van Halen's version).
Great concept, but along with the positives, there are some downsides to ROCK STAR MICKEY:
1) He only plays two songs (and only one of those two really qualifies as "rock") and there is a fine line between being a cute novelty and an annoying, repetitive noisemaker. This is the most significant (and quite frankly, the only) major letdown for this toy. The technology is available to allow for more songs ... many more songs.
2) The volume is unchangeable and true to rock star form, he's loud ... ROCK STAR MICKEY will command aural attention from everyone in the room.
3) The rock star persona is a refreshing change of pace for Mickey Mouse ... the attitude, the guitar and the moves (lifting the guitar and doing the splits) are definitely entertaining. Using Mickey to generate a child's interest in rock `n roll is a positive in my book.
4) While the Mickey Mouse doll is plush, there are parts of him (guitar and shoes) that are hard plastic ... unfortunately, ROCK STAR MICKEY it is not going to be a toy that a child will want to cuddle-up with at night (if this is attempted, parents wanting to ensure a good night sleep for everyone in the house would be wise to remove the batteries in case the foot is accidently pressed).
Overall, ROCK STAR MICKEY should prove to be entertaining for a young child at a basic level. I found that entertainment factor is high in the beginning, but it doesn't last long before it creates a potential repetitive-noise situation for parents. I think the limited number of tunes, the lack of a volume control and the hard plastic features could have been addressed (it would be nice if the guitar was detachable, even at the expense of some of Mickey's "moves"). But, because it's Mickey Mouse, it has instant appeal.
