loves this.
i am very conscious about not buying toys overloaded on electronics......i am hesitant to buy plastic toys as well.....but this is the most mind activating activity table i have seen to date......i searched through many for a month including wooden activity tables........i knew i didnt want to buy the average baby einstein sort that seems to be focused mainly on lighting up and playing some sort of annoying "music".......i have found that these types of toys easily over- and underwhelm my child at the same time....the annoying music being overwhelming.....and the educational value of baby einstein and fisher price activity tables/jumpers/excersaucers is underwhelming........this activity table from elc is perfect and thoroughly engages my very inquisitive, hands on, mechanically interested child......and i see that it will continue to engage him for some time to come as he learns new skills........
i apply a certain philosophy that has been developed by magda gerber and RIE when it comes to my childs play time.........i believe in independent play and being hands off with my childs engagement with the world during his playtime........and thus my son is very independent......and plays well by himself discovering new associations and uses for and between simple play objects......i do not teach him how to work buttons....or hammer the balls......thus he is totally learning how this little activity center works on his own.......right now he just loves taking the balls out of the pit and throwing them on the floor...then putting them back in....he also loves dropping the balls in the various holes...........this toy works with cause and effect as well as reinforcing his knowledge of object permanence and other mechanical actions.........i have yet to put batteries in the table so we dont know what the music sounds like......but its definitely not as important to the function of the toy as the annoying repetitive electronic music and lights are to other tables usually found in babies r us....
every child that has visited my house since my baby received this activity table as a xmas present gravitates to this toy first.....the oldest being 4 years old.......
every adult that has visited my house since this table was gifted... gravitates towards the table to play with it.
UPDATE:
its been a month and my little one continues to love this table....especially since i put batteries in it and turned it on.....now he is more interested in figuring out the levers and buttons to activate the different music.......
and the music---not really the best quality speaker that the sounds comes from....but at least the sound is not annoying electro-kiddie music either......the sounds come on as a reward for dropping the balls in the hole and such.....kind of sounds like the quarter machines at a casino or something.....its a cute toy.
