GeoTrax Disney/Pixar Cars Lightning McQueen's Close Call Review

Me, personally, as 'The Mama', would only give this toy 3 stars, however if my 2 year old son were writing this review, he'd definitely give it 5 stars...so I decided to meet in the middle with 4. This was a Christmas gift from my brother-in-law, and was VERY well received. My boy LOVES anything 'Cars' related, and he was doing the little impatient hopping dance the entire time I was getting it out of the box and setting it up.
Now, the reasons why *I* would only give it 3 stars is because only ONE car of the three included moves on the track, and that's McQueen. The Sheriff doesn't ride the track, but if you push him, he says about 5 different things. And the train...why'd they even include him? He does NOTHING! He doesn't even have wheels that turn which would allow kids to at least play with him like a car. Set-up was easy enough, but the track is CONSTANTLY coming apart. I think this all depends on individual tracks. Some people here have had no issues, while others have. We fall into the latter category. Whenever my son tries to move this, a few links separate or fall off completely. As for the speed, yes, McQueen IS slow, but that's not an issue for me. The boy's only 2, he's not worried about how fast it goes.
Now, my son seems to love this toy. The fact that it's always coming apart doesn't bother him in the least. He'll race McQueen with or without a track, he doesn't care. He's still to young to know that there's a method to setting the track up, but he rarely tries. He loves that he's in control of the car, and he can make it stop, go, move forward or backward as he chooses. The controller is simple to use, a stick that moves in only two directions, front and back. Anyway, there you have it. Do I recommend this?...eh. If your kid's a 'Cars' junkie, then sure. Really, what it come down to is that the cons of this toy which may irritate you as a parent, may mean absolutely nothing to a child.
